Drawing Essentials 1 introduces students to the foundational principles and techniques of drawing. The course consists of 9 lessons. You will learn principles that are the bedrock of everything you learn as you continue to grow. Working in pencil, you’ll learn to observe with discernment, draw deliberately, shade by recognizing values accurately, use edges to create dimension, various shading techniques, considering textures, create perspective, how to use your materials to their potential, and more. To read how courses are administered, read How Iguana Works.  Materials for this course are simple and low-cost: pencils, sharpener, eraser, and sketchbook. You’ll receive the material list with a helpful link to a prepared (checkout-ready) list of supplies at dickblick.com for everything you need (at a savings of about 40%!). For more questions, visit our FAQs page. In every lesson, Mr. Chambers takes you on a tour at Iguana Museum of Fine Art (IMOFA), making use of great examples from art history to illustrate the principles he’s teaching. No textbook for the course, though students will be provided clear assignment guidelines and occasional printouts for exercises.
